emigrated to America 1745 and settled in New York where he was known as a merchant by 1747. Host of General George Washington on 9 April 1776 when he spent the night in Lyme on his way from Cambridge, after taking command of the patriot army. He was also the host of Lafayette when he spent the night of July 27, 1778 in Lyme, in command of a detachment of troops going eastward.
